A spacesuit is bulky because it must maintain pressure, permit movement and protect the body from its surroundings. Structural layers, joints and life-support equipment all add volume. It is much more than a thick winter coat.
Why a thin coverall is insufficient
Internal pressure tends to inflate the suit. Its restraint layer must contain that effect, and the joints must preserve room for movement. Additional layers provide thermal protection, abrasion resistance and protection against small particles. Gloves must combine protection with the ability to perform precise tasks.
Size is not the same as weight
In free fall an astronaut does not feel the suit's ordinary weight, but its mass and inertia remain. Starting and stopping the suited body therefore takes effort. On the Moon, weaker but real weight also matters; a design suited to orbital spacewalks may not suit walking on a surface.
What would happen to an ordinary glove
Pressurizing a soft glove tends to straighten its fingers, making flexion work against pressure. A suit glove therefore needs a precise shape and restraint structure that limits expansion while allowing grip. Hands illustrate why simply thinning the material is insufficient: protection, gas retention and mobility must work together.
