03 / 03

On the surface the rover has collected rock cores for possible return to Earth while two technology demonstrations proved new capabilities.

Ingenuity first flew on 19 April 2021 and completed 72 flights before rotor damage ended its mission in January 2024; MOXIE produced 122 g of oxygen from the Martian atmosphere [6, 7].

In January 2023 the rover finished the ten-tube Three Forks depot, and by October 2026 it had collected 29 rock and regolith samples, including the "Sapphire Canyon" core with potential biosignatures [1, 5, 8].
