Mars 2020 left Cape Canaveral on an Atlas V 541 at the start of a seven-month journey to Mars.
The rocket lifted off from Space Launch Complex 41 at 7:50 a.m. EDT; the Centaur upper stage placed the spacecraft into a parking orbit and a second burn sent it on its interplanetary trajectory [2, 3].
After a brief safe-mode event caused by low temperatures in Earth's shadow, the spacecraft returned to normal operation and spent 203 days covering 472 million km to Mars [2, 4].
